Fair Use Policy

This page explains the limits that apply to your BTAG account, why they exist, and how we prioritise AI processing across plans. We would rather tell you plainly than have you discover a limit at a bad moment.

1. The short version

Searching your photos is free and unlimited on every plan, including Free. So is the background indexing that makes search work. The limits below apply to storage, to on-demand AI (the credits), and to how quickly we process a very large batch of uploads.

2. Storage

Each plan includes a storage allowance — Free 100 MB, Basic 1 GB, Pro 10 GB, Business 100 GB. If you go over it, we will not delete anything: we stop accepting new uploads and give you a grace period to free up space or move to a bigger plan. Your existing photos stay exactly where they are, and you can always export your data.

3. AI credits

AI credits are spent when you ask BTAG to process a photo for you — reading the text in it, or filling in an item's details automatically. One credit processes one photo.

You get a one-off signup bonus when you join, and a monthly allowance that refreshes each cycle. Monthly credits are use-it-or-lose-it and do not roll over; your signup and referral credits never expire.

Searching your photos costs no credits at all, and never will.

4. AI processing speed — and why paid plans go first

When you upload a photo, BTAG analyses it in the background so you can search for it later. That analysis is genuinely expensive to run: roughly one second of server time per image. We run it on shared infrastructure.

Two things follow from that, and we would rather be upfront about both:

We do this so that one person uploading an entire warehouse cannot leave everybody else waiting. We do not artificially slow anyone down to sell you an upgrade.

5. What counts as unfair use

We reserve the right to throttle or suspend an account that is doing something the service was plainly not built for. In practice that means:

If we ever need to act on this, we will contact you first wherever we reasonably can. We are not looking for reasons to cut people off — this section exists to protect the service for everyone else.

6. Changes to these limits

Limits may change as the service grows and as we learn how people actually use it. If a change would reduce what you currently get, we will tell you before it takes effect, in line with the notice period in our Terms of Service.

7. Questions

If a limit is getting in your way, email support@btag.cloud and tell us what you are trying to do. If you are doing something reasonable and our limits are the problem, we would rather fix the limits.
